Carl “Ed” Johnson, 81 of Royal Center, passed away Friday, June 2, 2017 at Franciscan Health East in Lafayette.

Born on September 10, 1935 in Logansport, he was the son of the late Joyce and Goldie (Beeler) Johnson.  On June 29, 1957 in Logansport, IN he married Patricia Lou Pufahl who preceded in death on December 16, 2016. Ed retired from Exide Battery; he was also a dairy farmer.

Ed was a 1954 graduate of Logansport High School. He was a member of the Royal Center United Methodist Church. Ed served his country in United States Army Reserves. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, mowing and gardening. He loved reading, watching sports, coaching little league and playing euchre, especially with his grandchildren. Ed was also a dedicated patron to the Bullshippers Café.

Surviving is a son, Kelly E. (Betsy) Johnson, St Louis, MO; daughter, Jennifer (Jim) Boerger, Racine, WI; daughter in law, Deb Johnson, Royal Center; seven grandchildren, Nathan Boerger; Justine (Eric) Oertel; Lauren Boerger; David Boerger; William James Johnson; Amanda Johnson; and Blake Johnson; and one great granddaughter in July.

He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Johnson and two sisters, Mary Hayden and Patty Knox.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 in the Gundrum Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Zimmerman officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt Hope Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 PM Tuesday, June 6, 2017 also in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Royal Center Library.
