Laddie Shuman, 96, of Monticello and formerly of Walton, passed away Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015 at 3:39 am in the White Oak Health Campus of Monticello.

Born May 16, 1918 in Walton, IN to the late Elmer C. and Donna (Oden) Shuman. On Oct. 13, 1943 in Ashland, KY he married Hazel "Jo" Akers who preceded in death on Dec. 19, 1984. Then on Nov. 24, 1991 in Greentown, IN he married Helen L. (Abbott) Carlisle who also preceded in death on July 29, 2001.

Laddie was a retired farmer and a very active and giving individual. He was a member of the Monticello Christian Church, a Life member of the Walton Masonic Lodge #423, Life member of the Elk's Lodge #66, member of the Walton American Legion Post #418, Voiture #729 40 & 8, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis , Murat Shrine Temple of Indianapolis, Logansport Shrine Club, White County Shrine Club and was a WW II Army Veteran.

Survivors include three nieces, Janis Helbert, Garrett, IN; Hazel Pianis, Marietta, GA; Judy Carter, Austin, TX; two nephews, Jay Smith, Fort Wayne, IN; Roger Akers, Kokomo, IN; one cousin, Jean Kinsey, Fort Wayne, IN; dear friends, Debbie Crites, Mathis, TX; Danny Pickering, Logansport, IN; and Laddie's Amish friends, Elvie Miller and family.

Laddie was preceded in death by his step mother, Mildred Shuman; two sisters, Patty Lou Wilson and Carol Long; two infant brothers; one nephew, Jack Smith; one step sister, Helen Schmidt and his loving companion, Agnes Bossung.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015 in the Gundrum Funeral Home with burial including full military rites to follow in the Walton Cemetery.

A visitation will be held from 5 - 7 pm Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015 in the funeral home with a Masonic service to be held at 6:45 pm. followed by a Shrine Processional.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Monticello Christian Church or to the Shriner Hospitals for Children.
