Martha Caldwell

Martha Kathryn Caldwell, 84, of Kokomo, formerly of Galveston, passed away on Saturday January 13, 2018 at Community Howard Regional Hospital in Kokomo.

Born on December 27, 1933 in Cass County, IN she was the daughter of the late James and Mae (Blackburn) Swank.

On February 20, 1955 in the Indian Creek Christian Church, Kathryn married Francis Eugene Caldwell who preceded her in death on August 30, 2003.

Kathryn was a member of Center United Methodist Church. She was a past President and Officer for Cass County Extension Homemakers. She enjoyed gathering with friends to play bunco and playing cards in the Walton library. Kathryn loved sewing, cooking, making noodles and traveling, especially to Hawaii and Alaska. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in 4-H and sports.

Surviving are two daughters, Karen Schlegelmilch, Galveston, IN; Karla (Jim) Markvicka, Valrico, FL; Gregory (Cindy) Caldwell, Bringhurst, IN; six grandchildren, Evan (Jen) Schlegelmilch, Houston, TX; Dr. Kelsey (Dr. Travis Stephens) Schlegelmilch, Galveston, IN; Braden Schlegelmilch, Indianapolis, IN; Nicole Markvicka, Valrico, FL; Adam (Emily) Wheeler, Kokomo, IN; Derik Caldwell, Bringhurst, IN; three great grandchildren, J.J. Schlegelmilch, Lila Peters and Jack Wheeler; four sisters, Joyce (Bob) Miller, Royal Center, IN; Etta Byers, Camden, IN; Nina (Dick) Holle, Royal Center, IN; Ruth Swank, Logansport; three brothers, Jerry (Kathy) Swank, NC; Bob (Bonnie) Swank, NJ; Gene (Carol) Swank, Galveston, IN; and one sister-in-law, Pat Hughes, Logansport.

Kathryn was preceded in death by one sister, Donnabelle (Kenny) Hinkle, one brother, John Swank and one son-in-law Don Schlegelmilch.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30am on Friday January 19, 2018 in Gundrum Funeral Home with Pastor John Newman Officiating. Burial will follow in Paint Creek Cemetery, Camden, IN.

Visitation will be from 3:00pm until 7:00pm on Thursday January 18, 2018 in Gundrum Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Cass County Extension Homemakers or to the Center United Methodist Church.

The Caldwell Family has entrusted Gundrum Funeral Home and Crematory with arrangements.
