Eileen Frey, 93, surrounded by her family in her home, went to be with her Lord on Saturday November 4, 2017 at 7:59 pm.

Eileen was born to her loving parents, the late Gerald and Pearl (Mehaffie) Jones on September 11, 1924 in Cass County, Indiana.  She was raised in Anoka with her sisters, Helen (Walsh), Gwen (Eagan) and brother Bill Jones. She loved sharing childhood memories of walking to her Grandmother’s house which always involved stopping by the swimming hole.  Growing up in the era of the Great Depression created a resilience and strength in Eileen that was a driving force in how she lived her life to the fullest.

In 1942, Eileen married her high school sweetheart, Ted Frey.  Soon after marrying, the two were swept off to a life of military service as Ted was a pilot with the United States Air Force.  Eileen was forever proud to share the journeys and the many destinations around the world where they were stationed.  Ted and Eileen welcomed their four children, each while stationed on a different Air Force Base.  There was no greater joy in Eileen’s life than her children Cathy, Debbie, Randy and Donna.  The couple was finally able to settle down back at home in the Logansport area in 1963.

Once settled in Logansport, with the kids in school, Eileen took a job at the Cass County Auditor’s Office as a Deputy Clerk, an opportunity she loved because she could meet and interact with the community each day.  Upon retirement, Eileen served as a Township Board Member of Washington Township for more than 20 years.

Eileen was a proud, long-standing, member of the Anoka United Methodist Church having attended there since childhood.  She was honored to serve as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Church.

Right up until just 3 weeks ago, Eileen maintained an active social calendar with playing cards with her “Bridge Girls”, activities with her beloved Church family, Gospel Music concerts and of course her hair and nail appointments.  Throughout the years, Eileen’s passion for quilting was shared with her daughters, daughter in-law and the ladies of the Anoka UM Church.  Eileen loved the holiday seasons, but had a special love for Christmas, even buying Christmas decor year-round.  Throughout the years, Eileen obtained an impressive Hummel collection, just one more thing that brought her great joy from day to day.   Eileen was always very supportive of the activities of her children, grandchildren and even her great grandchildren.  Even at 93 years old, Eileen would never hesitate to ask, “what can I do for you?”, even offering to run errands for others.  Her giving heart was the compass of how she would live her life, always putting others first.

Eileen loved to travel, in fact she has traveled to 49 of the 50 states.  She was known to have a suitcase packed at all times and was always ready to plan the next trip!  This past summer, Eileen continued her travels with visits to Disney World and to Austin, Texas.

Although Eileen will be dearly missed by her friends and family, her exuberance for living life to the fullest is something that will be cherished by those loved by her.

Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Frey, Logansport; Donna (Paul) McGaughey, Rochester; son, Randy (Patti) Frey, Macy; four grandchildren, Tina (Robb) Haworth; Kyle (Ryane) McGaughey; Abigail Frey; Chandler (Julie) Frey; five great grandchildren, Trae, Tanner, Teagan and Tessa Haworth, and Kennedy McGaughey.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Frey, a daughter, Cathy Beth Frey, a brother and two sisters.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 9, 2017 in the Anoka United Methodist Church with Pastor David Duke and Pastor Chris Rife officiating. Burial will follow in the Rock Creek Cemetery, Logansport.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Wednesday, November 8 in the Gundrum Funeral Home. There will also be visitation held 30 minutes prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Anoka United Methodist Church
