Betty Jo “Jody” Smith, age 95, of Carmel, IN and formally of Edmond, OK & Logansport, IN, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2026, in her residence with her family by her side.
Betty was born on February 2, 1930, in Hornersville, Missouri, to the late Robert Lee and Georgia Branum (Williams) Greer. On August 25, 1956, in Logansport, she married William Art Smith who preceded in death on December 16, 1988.
Betty was a 1946 graduate of Central High School in St. Louis, MO. She received an associate’s degree in criminal justice from IUK and a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Central Oklahoma. She was a former hairdresser at Faye’s Beauty Shop, worked as a bookkeeper at the National Bank, and assisted her husband Art at the EEL Township Trustees Office. Betty was a former member of Market Street United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School.
Betty is survived by one daughter Laura Smith Theis and husband Larry; son, Ronald Lee Brinkmeyer and wife Jenny; three grandchildren, Travis Theis, Molly (Kyel) Richard, and Rachael (Matt) Lampe; three great grandchildren, Joshua Lampe, Annalee Lampe, and Evan Richard.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Suetta Perfetto.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at 1:00pm at Gundrum Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Powers officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, from 11:00 am until time of services.
