David Pickens

David D. Pickens, 65, of Kokomo, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2025, at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born April 24, 1960, in Logansport to Frank and Lillian (Wood) Pickens. He married Linda Dillon on October 8, 1978. She preceded him in passing on December 30, 2024.

He was a graduate of Northwestern High School. He earned his Bachelor or Science from IU Kokomo and a Master’s degree from DePaul University. He worked several places over his years in accounting and taxes. Some of the places he was employed included, Payless Shoe Source, Zennith, Kokomo Housing Authority, and lastly, he was the Vice President of Tax at Goody’s Family Clothing until his retirement in 2008. He and his wife also owned Bressler’s Ice Cream in Logansport.

David loved spending time on the Pickens Family Farm growing up. He also enjoyed playing Euchre, chess, working with his hands, horseback riding, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a hard-working man that loved his career and strived to be the best husband, father, and man he could be. Above all, David was a man of faith and loved his Lord and Savior.

David is survived by his three daughters, Sarah (Stephen) Byrd, Kokomo; Christine (Jason) Stanley, IN; Heather (Chris Cooprider) Pickens, Terre Haute; a sister, Peggy (John) Martino of Burlington; six grandsons, Jakob Byrd, Noah Byrd, Levi Byrd, Oliver Byrd, Thatcher Pickens and Wyatt Pickens and; five granddaughters, Grace Stanley, Ameliah Stanley, Cecilia Stanley, Lillian Pickens and Samantha Grove.Along with his wife, David was preceded in death by parents; one son, Daniel F. Pickens, and one granddaughter, Clara Pickens.

A private family celebration will be held at a later date. Gundrum Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting with the arrangements for David. Messages of condolence may be left at www.gundrumcares.com.
