Dr. Donald F. Rutschmann, 83, Logansport, passed away in the comfort of his home on March 6, 2017 after a brief illness.

Born as a twin on October 2, 1933 in Bronx, NY, he was the son to the late Harry and Alma (Reidmuller) Rutschmann.

On January 30, 1971 in Dayton, OH, he married Nancy L. Ander who preceded in death on June 17, 2012.

Dr. Rutschmann lived a very long and interesting life having obtained several University degrees before obtaining his Doctorate level degree in Psychological Counseling from the University of Illinois in 1970.  He additionally was employed in many different fields from poultry husbandry to vocational counseling until obtaining his last and longest position of 38 years at the Logansport State Hospital as their Psychologist.  His pursuit of academic and professional career was made more challenging by his disability of blindness at the age of 13 incurred by an injury followed by a serious infection, resulting in multiple surgeries.

For more than three decades he has also participated in the Logansport Barbershop Quartet and was active with his wife in various activities representing all people with varying disabilities.

Surviving are two daughters, Sarah J. Rutschmann, Logansport; Amy E. (Tim) Shinneman, Marion, IA; three beautiful granddaughters, Lari A. Rutschmann, Logansport; Emmalee R. Shinneman, Marion, IA; Alaina L. Shinneman, Marion, IA; one brother, Julius (Nancy) Rutschmann, Ghent, NY;

Donald was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Emile Rutschmann.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 9, 2017 in the Gundrum Funeral Home with Father Dominic Petan officiating. Burial will follow in Ever-Rest Memorial Park.

Visitation will be held from Noon until the time of service on Thursday.

Memorials may be made to the Dr. and Mrs. Donald Rutschmann Scholarship at the Cass County Community Foundation.

Gundrum Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
