Hazel (Walters) Lindley, 102, of Logansport, passed away Friday, September 26, 2014 at her winter home in Ruskin , Florida.

Hazel was born on August 3, 1912, in Fulton County, Indiana, the daughter of Joseph and Myrtle Farrer. Hazel Anna, the third of nine children, shared her childhood with Wayne, Violet, Gladys, Budd, James. Betty, Bob, and Bonnie; Bob is the only survivor.

The union of Hazel and Joseph Emil Walters in December, 1930 they had one son Joseph George Walters and one daughter Sally Lou (Keith) Hall, who survive. Following her husband’s death in September 1966, she married Gerald “Dave” Davis Lindley in February 1976. Dave died in December 2001.

Hazel retired after thirty years from J. C. Penney Company following several years’ employment at the Logansport Gossard Company. During her retirement, she found delivering newspapers and working in The Lindley Bait Shop as ways to extend friendships. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and needlecraft as well as playing cards with family and friends. Her greatest joys and fondest memories came from times spent with siblings, children, seven great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Hazel also spent many happy hours with her wonderful caregivers in Indiana and Florida.

Hazel was a member of the Wheatland Avenue United Methodist Church and “Penny Girls” in Logansport. As her health permitted, she was a Florida Snowbird and Rochester Resident on Lake Manitou.

The Gundrum Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements. Rev. Jim Farrer will officiate at the Celebration of Life Service at 1:00 pm on Saturday Oct 4. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service, and burial will follow after the service at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Logansport, Indiana.
