Hollis "Fletch" Helms

Hollis “Fletch” Helms, age 98, of Logansport, passed away in his home on July 9, 2025, at 2:40 am.

Born November 16, 1926, in Cass County to the late Ross and Ruth (Winegardner) Helms. On February 18, 1950, in Mexico, IN he married Gladys E. Kidd who preceded him in death December 30, 2014.

Hollis was a retired from Select Seed Company, was a former farmer in Carroll County and had also worked for Indiana Farm Bureau Co-op. He graduated from Twelve Mile High School in 1945 before joining the Army and served his country for two years. He was a member of the Miami Baptist Church, enjoyed spending time in Florida, mushroom hunting, and fishing in MN. Hollis was a big fan of Purdue, Pacers, Colts and the Cubs. He at one time served as Sergeant of the Capital Police and protected President Truman during his travels between the Capital and the Pentagon.

Survivors include one daughter, Teresa Ann Helms, Logansport; one son, Dale A. (Mary) Helms, Lafayette; two sisters, Elsie Strasser, Logansport; Lois Bowers, Rochester; two granddaughters, Cassy (John) Gasser, Delphi; Kari (Allen) Gerth, Fishers; three grandsons, Christopher Helms, Delphi; Ryan (Megan) Helms, Lafayette; Matt (Jackie) Helms, Lafayette; ten great grandchildren, Hudson Helms, Marley Helms, Bailey Gasser, Jordyn (Nathan) Abramczyk, Cayden Gasser, Emma Helms, Hayden Helms, Zach Gerth, Tyler Gerth & Benny Hollis Helms.

Hollis was also preceded in death by one son, Dana Helms, 4-sisters and 3 brothers.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday July 12, 2025, in the Gundrum Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Marcellino officiating. A burial will follow in Ever-Rest Memorial Park Cemetery.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from noon until the time of services on Saturday in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Guardian Angel Hospice Foundation.

Full military rites will be provided by the Cass County Honor Guard.
