James Steiner

James (Jim) R. Steiner passed away Sunday, September 10, 2017 at Golden Living Center Sycamore Village in Kokomo.

On August 14, 1947 in Lafayette, Jim was the third son of six children born to the late Leonard and Alma (Cullum) Steiner.

Jim spent the early years of his life growing up, and helping his father on their farm a few miles northwest of Fowler.   He met and later married his former wife, Sarah (Graf) Steiner, with whom he had three children.

While married, he and his family settled in Earl Park, where he earned his living working at the Benton Review printing press.  Beginning in 1989, Jim enjoyed working as a truck driver for various companies including Monford, Walmart, and finally Transport Service.  In 2009, he retired and happily settled in Burrows Indiana, where he contentedly spent the remainder of his life.

Jim loved restoring and maintaining older vehicles, including various Cushman motor scooters, a 1966 Ford Thunderbird, a 1969 Mercedes Benz, and several older Ford Ranger pickups.  When he wasn’t tinkering in his garage, he enjoyed watching movies, mowing his yard, maintaining his home, and spending time with his friends and family.

Surviving along with his former wife Sarah, are his three children, daughter Stacey (Brian) Coordes, two sons, Dale (Jenny) Steiner, and Jason Steiner.  Also surviving are his siblings Loretta (Tom) Schwartz, Leonard (Carol) Steiner, Shirley (Robert) Schwartz, Mary (Mike) Widner, and Larry Steiner.

A Celebration of his life will be held at 2:30 PM on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at the Deer Creek Community Center.  A graveside service will follow the next day at 9:30am at South Union Cemetery, a few miles west of Kokomo, IN.
