Jay Worth Thompson, age 89, of Carmel, Indiana, formerly of Logansport, Indiana, the last surviving grandson of one of Boone Township’s pioneers, William A. Thompson, died at 3:45 P.M. Friday, May 26, 2006 in Indianapolis. Born October 7, 1916 in Gary, Indiana to Anson Leroy and Rose Annetta (Glick) Thompson, he was raised in and around Royal Center. On May 23, 1943, he married Geraldine Hand. For 32 years, he was a mainstay in the Service Department at W. S. E. (later Burger) Chevrolet-Buick in Logansport, then spent another 19 years repairing cars in Jay’s Job Shop behind their home at 712 East Broadway, retiring on his 80th birthday. All who knew Jay will remember his willingness to serve others, and his humble and joyful spirit. In his last years he has enjoyed collecting old coins and especially the state quarters. Jay was a member of the Colonial Hills Baptist Church of Indianapolis and a former member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church of Logansport.
He is survived by his wife; one son, Jay Michael, and wife, Darlene, of Indianapolis; two daughters, Rebecca Jane Thompson of Indianapolis, and Lissa Jill, and husband, Edward Bachman of St. Louis, MO., and a special adopted daughter, Dr. Nell Collins of Indianapolis; three grandchildren and three great granddaughters.

(His brother, Alfred Hale; a son, Ronald Leroy; and a daughter, Susan Ruth, preceded him in death.)

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at the Hillcrest Baptist Church with interment at Mount Hope Cemetery in Logansport. Pastor Loren Regier and Pastor Larry Boehning will officiate at the services.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 31, 2006 from 11:00 A.M until time of services at the Hillcrest Baptist Church.
