Obituary

Janet Closson Carr passed away at the home of her daughter on Thursday, January 21, 2021  at the age of 102. She was born on April 10, 1918 in Logansport, Indiana to Homer and Alfaretta  Hilton Closson. On November 5, 1938, she married Dick Carr, a member of the 1934 Logan Berries  basketball championship team, who preceded her in death on May 12, 2006.  

During high school, Janet began her career as a librarian at the Logansport Public Library. In  May 1970, she received her certification from the State of Indiana Library Certification Board and  continued to serve the Logansport Library through 1994. She was elected to the Logansport City  Council in 1983 and served four years. She was a member of Psi Iota Xi Sorority, Mothers' Study  Club, and the Baptist Temple.  

Her hobbies included entering contests. She won prizes from coveted nylon stockings during  World War II with the slogan "Almond Joy sweeps the nation like inflation" to a refrigerator using  the name Kelvinator as an acrostic. She enjoyed playing Bridge with a group of friends formed during  high school. She learned to play the organ and was invited to join a small group of church organists,  one of whom was her teacher. She always treated her family to "Sleigh Ride" on her prized Hammond  B3 organ during Christmas dinners.  

She is survived by a daughter, Virginia Beth (Terry) Sims, of Warsaw, Indiana; a son, Richard  Elliott (Kandy) Carr, LaPorte, Indiana; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 7 great, great  grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Matthew Carr; her brothers, Ralph  Closson, George Closson, and John Closson; her sisters, Gertrude Closson Armick, Jean Closson,  Mary Closson Green, and Virginia Closson Persinger.  

A private burial was held in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Logansport.
